John Kerry has been sworn in as America's Secretary of State, on a day marred by yet another attack on a US diplomatic post.
Kerry was sworn in in a private ceremony on Capitol Hill, less than two hours after Hillary Clinton swept out of the State Department.
But a pall was cast over the historic events by an attack on the US embassy in Ankara in which a local Turkish security guard was killed.
Kerry says he will make his first foreign trip later this month, but says he has no plans to beat Clinton's record of visiting 112 countries.
