A couple whose daughter cancelled her wedding just days before she was due to walk down the aisle have donated the "creme de la creme" reception to homeless families.
Willie and Carol Fowler were prepared to lose their deposits when their daughter cancelled her wedding with just 40 days notice in the United States.
Carol told ABC News her husband had "a vision" to donate the lavish food, venue and entertainment to a reception for Hosea Feed the Hungry - a charity their daughter Tamara had volunteered for in the past.
Two hundred homeless guests dined on a four-course meal complete with coconut shrimp and salmon at Villa Christina. Children were given chicken fingers.
A spokesperson for Hosea Feed the Hungry said the not-for-profit organisation initially thought the Fowler family were joking.
"It's a very creme de la creme wedding venue, so to say that you're going to host 200 homeless individuals at Villa Christina, it sounds like a prank call."
The Fowlers' daughter attended the event, and her dad says it was a "bittersweet but rewarding" experience.
The family hopes to get sponsors and make it an annual event, Carol told WBUR.
