Head of research in Climategate steps down

The man at the centre of the so-called Climategate e-mail scandal has stepped down temporarily.

The University of East Anglia says Climatic Research Unit director Phil Jones is being investigated over claims he manipulated data to support the case for man-made global warming.

He is stepping down until that independent review is completed.

Thousands of e-mails and documents from the CRU were released on the internet after the University's computer files were hacked.
