French navy attacked by pirates

The French military says one of its navy vessels has been attacked by Somali pirates who mistook it for a cargo ship.

The navy command and supply ship repelled the night assault and captured five of the attackers after a chase on the high seas.

"They apparently thought it was a harmless cargo ship," says military spokesman Christophe Prazuck.

He says pirates on board two speedboats tried to board the Somme about 400 km off the Somali coast.

No one was injured.
