There are fears that next week will see the end of an independent judiciary in Fiji.

The International Commission of Jurists is the latest to condemn the sacking of judges under Commodore Frank Bainimarama's military regime.

The self -appointed government has now removed the Fiji Law Society and its outspoken president Dorsami Naidu from the Judicial Service Commission, which will set up a new court system.

TVNZ spoke to Dorsami Naidu on Monday. The next day he was arrested.

We talked to him again on Saturday about his treatment.

He says the mere fact of being locked up in a cell without windows, a lot of cockroaches and without proper facilities does affect you mentally.

Naidu says he risked speaking out again rather than sit back and let what's happening in Fiji continue without making a comment. He says the media in Fiji is totally gagged.
