At least 16 people were killed and 43 others injured when an
explosion ripped through a factory in eastern China in the middle
of the night, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.
The explosion blew up the workshops of Jingxin Mining Ltd in
Fengyang County, in eastern China's Anhui province, at 3:17 am,
according to the county government.
Most of those killed were employees of the company, which produces
about 300,000 tonnes of quartz sand a year for the Chinese and
export markets.
Most of the injured were nearby residents, Xinhua said.
