Drinking between meals in Italy
Italian teenagers are breaking a tradition of drinking wine only at the dinner table. In the decade to 2008 the percentage of 14-17 year-olds drinking between meals has increased by nearly 50%, a much sharper rise than in the broader population.

Europe: Heavy episodic drinking in the last month
The percentage of heavy-drinking 15- to 16-year old Italian students has grown more than 20% over 1995 to 2007, tracking a trend in other southern Europe countries. The rise in the UK was smaller than than 10%, while Nordic countries showed declines.
