Relief for people in Adelaide from the city's first November heatwave will have to wait until Monday, following a revised forecast.

The Australian city is now tipped to have an eight-day stretch above 35 degrees.

Five days or more above that mark is officially considered a heatwave.

The mercury reached 36.7 on Sunday, hit 37 on Monday and topped 38 on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Australia's Bureau of Meteorology initially forecast it to reach 39 degrees on both Thursday and Friday before a cooler day on Saturday.

But in a revised forecast on Wednesday, it said temperatures would stay in the high 30s until Sunday, with no real relief until Monday when the forecast top was 28 degrees.

The bureau said temperatures would return to the mid-30s by Wednesday next week.

The hot weather on Saturday could cause problems for the annual Christmas pageant through Adelaide, which normally attracts thousands of children and their families.

Organisers said the parade would go ahead as planned but called on all involved to be prepared for the conditions.

The state government said sporting and recreational groups should consider whether their own events should continue.

"At this time of year, people are not yet acclimatised to the heat," Sports Minister Michael Wright said.

At the very least, Wright said sporting organisations and people exercising were encouraged to modify their activities by adding breaks, reducing game times or by postponing events, particularly for juniors.
