It was déjà vu alright as scientists cloned five puppies from the world's most "clone-worthy" dog.
California scientists have cloned a dog who was dubbed a hero after helping with the search-and-rescue effort in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Trakr is credited with helping find one woman who was still alive after the collapse of the World Trade Centre.
The Associated Press reported that five German shepherd puppies cloned from Trakr were given to owner James Symington, a former police officer in Los Angeles.
Symington entered Trakr in a competition in April through California company BioArts International . The prize - one free pet dog cloning.
He became emotional after being given the puppies, as Trakr passed away after being entered in the competition.
But his legacy may now live on through puppies Trust, Valor,
Prodigy, Solace and Déjà vu.
