Cyclone Rene ravages islands

The worst of Cyclone Rene has now passed American Samoa.

The cyclone was packing winds of 80kph an hour with gusts up to 144kph as it hit the country, forcing the closure of Pago Pago International Airport as well as government departments and schools.

A maintenance worker was killed on Saturday after falling from a three storey building he was trying to board up.

The cyclone is now heading toward Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Fiji.
