A New Zealand man and his family have been forced to leave their idyllic home on a French Island after they were accused of mutilating cats.
Wellington-born Blair McEwan claims locals on the island of Ile de Re, a 30km-long holiday destination off the west coast of France, have assaulted him and smeared excrement on his property after he lent a cat cage to a friend and a woman's cat went missing.
He claims his children have also been bullied at school as a result of the bizarre accusations.
The locals claim McEwan and his French wife sold or mutilated up to 200 cats.
McEwen said life is unbearable on the island and everything his
family went there for, like the stability, nature and the
atmosphere, has been ruined.
