One of the world's most iconic and famous children's toys has been given a makeover once again - this time wearing a burkha.

In connection with a charity auction for Save the Children, Barbie has been revealed wearing the traditional Islamic dress.

According to The Daily Mail more than 500 Barbies went on show in Florence, Italy.

The auction is part of celebrations for Barbie's 50th anniversary.

Barbie first hit the stands in March 1959 and was then joined by her long-term boyfriend Ken in 1961.

The proceedings from the auction will go to Save the Children to help towards the Rewrite the Future campaign which helps children around the world affected by conflict.
