As Samoa mourns, communities across New Zealand have rallied to help those affected by the tsunami.
At a West Auckland collection point volunteers are frantically filling containers.
It is the last day of school holidays but volunteer Roihi MacGillivray is hard at work.
"It's important to help anyone out in a tragedy", says MacGillivray.
The volunteers are building a mountain of Samoa-bound boxes of aid.
Everyone is doing what they can in between their work and other things.
"I mean kiwis are amazing. They really are the most generous people in the world, and along with Pacific Islanders who've obviously got a love for their people, this is the result." says ex All-Black Michael Jones.
The collection has been organised by New Zealand's Samoan leaders and they say they will fill around 20 donated shipping crates.
