The failure of a popular brand of baby dummy has sparked safety fears in Australia.
Six-week-old Charlie Oliver began choking on a Happy Baby brand dummy after the rubber teat came off, according to The Sunshine Coast Daily.
Charlie survived the ordeal after his mother Faye Oliver was able to get her finger down the boy's throat and pull the teat out.
The Woolworths Coolum store on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where she bought the dummy took the product off its shelves immediately.
The company that manufactures the teat, Sanbrook Brands Pty Ltd, has not recalled the dummies; instead it has asked for the broken one to be returned for tests.
It has also warned customers not to over-sterilise their dummies, which it says will cause them to deteriorate faster than normal.
Mother-of-three Oliver said she had used the Happy Baby brand dummies with her second child and never had a problem.
