Us Weekly magazine, a US celebrity gossip magazine, says it has an audio recording of Tiger Woods begging a mistress to change her telephone voicemail in order to hide their affair.
Jaimee Grubbs, a cocktail waitress, is alleged to have been having an affair with the superstar golfer for at least 31 months.
The voicemail message has been posted online. Click here to listen to the audio
In the call, you hear someone who sounds like Woods telling Grubbs to remove her name from her own voicemail, because his Swedish wife, Elin Nordegren's "went throught my phone and may be calling you."
According to TMZ , Grubbs bragged to co-workers at the Stone Rose Lounge in West Hollywood, claiming she was having an affair with Woods. She even playing them the voicemail he left for her on November 24, when he asked her to remove her name from the outgoing message on her voicemail due to his Swedish wife, Elin Nordegren's suspicion of the relationship.
Co-workers say she told them she had later received a call from a blocked number.
The woman caller did not identify herself but said to Grubbs "you know who this is because you're f***ing my husband."
The world's top golfer was treated briefly at a hospital for injuries to his face after his Cadillac Escalade hit a fire hydrant and a tree as he left the driveway of his Windermere, Florida, home at the weekend.
Amid a swirl of speculation over the details of the incident, media reports have been suggesting Woods had argued with his wife, Nordegren, that night.
Citing accident injuries, Woods, the greatest golfer of his generation and a powerful force in sports marketing whose fortune is estimated at $US1 billion, pulled out of the Chevron World Challenge golf tournament in Thousand Oaks, California, this week, an event he has hosted for nine years.
Woods said in a written statement on Monday (NZT) that the accident was his fault but called irresponsible the "false, unfounded and malicious rumours that are currently circulating about my family and me."
However, Woods has since
apologised for the latest revelations
of his transgressions in a statement published on his website
that he had "not been true to my values and the behaviour my family
deserves," without directly addressing the allegations of
infidelity. For

He says he regrets his transgressions with all his heart, but Woods
adds that although he has made his career as a professional
athlete, he is dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid
scrutiny really means.
