Asylum seeker boat intercepted in Australia

Authorities have intercepted a boat believed to be carrying 29 suspected asylum seekers off Australia's northwest coast.

The vessel was intercepted at about 10am on Friday as it approached Ashmore Island.

The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks. Their reasons for travel will also be established.

It is the 36th boat to arrive in Australian waters this year.
