There has been a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of a New Zealand photojournalist in Kenya.
Police in the African nation have charged Hesbon Amadade over the death of Trent Keegan, who had been in Africa documenting the exploitation of the continent's people when his body was found in a roadside ditch in Nairobi.
Amadade is already in jail after being charged with the high-profile murder of a Kenyan Airways pilot earlier this year.
Documentary maker Ron Harley, whose soon-to-be-aired TV ONE documentary about Keegan's killing led to Amadade being charged, said the two killings were similar.
"It was just a lightning attack on somebody, beaten on the head, dumped, left for dead.
"The Kenyan police say that [Amadade] is - quote - 'a very evil man'."
Those close to Keegan question whether his death was a random mugging, and Harley said concerns have been raised about whether Keegan may have died because there is some connection with the photography he was doing in Tanzania.
"The only puzzling part is that the guy never touched his wallet, never touched his visa, never touched his passport, his cash, credit cards, and his boots, which are usually the first things taken in a mugging in Nairobi," said Harley.
Keegan had told his family he had uncovered a story about a land dispute between a Tanzanian tribe and a safari company, saying that he had even seen a woman get shot.
Mike Keegan, Trent's father, said that his death still remains a mystery.
"Whilst it won't bring Trent back, when the hearing comes through, we may get to the bottom of what actually happened and why he was killed."
Amadade faces the Kenyan courts next month.
