Amnesty International says the human rights situation in Fiji is getting worse by the day.
New research by the human rights group has revealed a culture of extreme fear, with intimidation growing against those speaking out against the regime.
Amnesty says some people are getting death threats warning them to keep quiet.
This comes after the Fiji military imposed martial law, throwing out the constitution and pushing back elections for at least five years.
The group says the travel ban placed by New Zealand on anyone associated with Fiji's military regime, is working.
Amnesty's Pacific researcher Apolosi Bose says Fijians are thinking twice about accepting appointments especially when they have family members in New Zealand and Australia.
But Bose says Amnesty is concerned there are some New Zealand lawyers who are working for and advising the Fiji Government and sending the wrong signals about the ethics of upholding the rule of law.
