Southern Encounter Aquarium & Kiwi House
Located in the centre of Christchurch, Southern Encounter
Aquarium & Kiwi House has been created to take visitors on a
journey of discovery and presents a wonderful opportunity for
visitors to discover the splendour and diversity of the South
Island's unique aquatic wildlife as well as Kiwi and native
reptiles.

Our stunning nocturnal Kiwi House creates a moonlit New Zealand
bush setting, providing visitors with the sounds and smells of
native Beech forest.
All tours into the Kiwi House are personally guided. A
wonderful Tuatara enclosure enables visitors to view these unique
pre-historic New Zealand reptiles. A range of stunning native
geckos are also displayed.
Southern Encounter enables visitors to see what lurks beneath the
South Island's waterways. Over 120 different species of fish and
invertebrates are displayed. See massive Eels, observe
Sharks, Rays, Octopus, Seahorses, freshwater Crayfish as well as
large marine fish such as Hapuku and Kingfish. Stimulate your
senses by touching a range of invertebrates in an interactive tank.
Stroll through a simulated Glow Worm grotto to discover a wide
variety of New Zealand native freshwater fish.
Scheduled fish feeds occur throughout the day. A fantastic
wildlife themed gift shop is located at the entrance to the
attraction.
