Hamilton Zoo
Hamilton Zoo
Dubbed 'the zoo with personality', Hamilton Zoo is home to over 600
native and exotic animals - each with its own unique identity. From
kokako and tuatara to chimpanzees, giraffes, white rhinos and
Sumatran tigers, the zoo boasts a wide range of species and
personalities.
While a stroll through the zoo's 25 hectare grounds provides plenty
of opportunities to observe the many animals that reside there, for
some visitors that mightn't quite be enough - so last year Hamilton
Zoo introduced Face2Face. Described as "the photo opportunity of a
lifetime and an experience you'll never forget", Face2Face provides
visitors with the chance to enjoy an intimate, close-up look at
four of the zoo's animals. The encounters see visitors feed
the lemurs or capuchin monkeys for themselves, or have a front row
seat as the keepers feed the tigers or cheetahs.
Other unique experiences on offer at Hamilton Zoo include Eye2Eye
encounters which allow visitors an in-depth behind the scenes look
at one of five animals (chimps, rhinos, cheetah, tuatara and
ringtail lemurs) and daily Meet the Keeper talks which provide
visitors with the opportunity to find out more about their
favourite animals.
Hamilton Zoo also boasts the largest walk-through aviary in
Australasia and is renowned for its generous habitats.
As well as being a tourism and recreational park, the zoo is a
valuable contributor to breeding programmes for endangered species
of animals, participates in various conservation and research
projects, and has a strong focus on education.
