Wild Vets:

A home grown series following vets working in the wild and in zoos throughout New Zealand.

Wild Vets won't tell you the truth about cats and dogs.

But it will profile a group of wildlife vets whose work ranges from the recently publicised kakapo recovery on Codfish Island (just south of Stewart Island) to the importation of gibbons bound for Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch and serval cats and cheetahs  for Wellington Zoo.

Far removed from your friendly local vet clinic, these highly-qualified specialist spend their time maintaining the health and on-going survival of exotic and native species.

On any given day, they might extract a red panda's tooth, operate on an ailing tiger, respond to a dolphin stranding or X-ray the inside of a tuatara.

Wild vets travel all over New Zealand and its outer islands, from Northland to work with the brown kiwi to the sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands to monitor the endangered NZ sea lion.
