*GALE WARNING IN FORCE* South of Abut Head: Northeast 40 knots, easing to northerly 30 knots this morning and to northwest 20 knots late afternoon. Elsewhere: Northeast 25 knots, becoming northwest 15 knots late afternoon. Very rough sea in the south easing. Northwest swell 2 metres easing. Southwest swell rising to 2 metres. Poor visibility in periods of rain, possibly heavy south of Hokitika.
Outlook following 3 days: Becoming Sunday morning southwest 15 knots but westerly 30 knots north of Cape Foulwind, and Sunday evening southwest 30 knots everywhere, easing late Monday 15 knots and Tuesday variable 10 knots. Sea rough at times. Moderate southwest swell. Moderate northerly swell dying out Sunday.
