    A ridge of high pressure lies to the South. An easterly flow strengthens over the area ahead of a slow moving front and low approaching from the north Tasman Sea. The ridge moves to the east of the country on Saturday and the front drifts south during Sunday, with winds easing behind.

    Thursday: Easterly 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots north of Slipper Island. Sea rough in the north. Fair visibility in a few showers.

    Friday: Easterly 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the north, rising to 25 knots everywhere in the morning. Sea becoming rough everywhere in the morning. Fair visibility in occasional showers.


    Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Northeast rising to 30 knots. Rain. Sunday: Northeast rising to 35 knots. Rain. Monday: Easing to westerly 20 knots. Showers.


    Swell forecast to midnight Monday: Easterly about half a metre, rising to northeast 1 metre Friday, to 2 metres Saturday and to 3 metres Sunday, then easing to 2 metres Monday.
