    A ridge moves off the North Island today and northwesterlies develop ahead of an approaching trough. The trough is expected to move slowly east over the area overnight Friday and early Saturday, followed by southwesterlies. The flow turns northwest again on Monday.

    Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Becoming easterly 15 knots in the morning, then southwest 30 knots late. Rain easing to showers later. Sunday: Southwest 30 knots, easing to 20 knots in the evening. Showers easing. Monday: Westerly 20 knots, turning northwest late. Cloudy periods, a few showers.
