A low over the Tasman Sea approaches the upper North Island today while a northwest flow covers the South Island. The low moves across the North Island on Sunday, followed by strong or gale westerlies over the country. The flow turns southwest over the South Island on Monday, then eases Wednesday.

Outlook until midnight Wednesday: Monday: Northwest 25 knots, changing southwest 30 knots in the evening with showers developing. Tuesday: Southwest 30 knots and showers, easing at night. Wednesday: Southwest dying out and northwest 15 knots developing. Becoming fine.
Swell forecast to midnight Wednesday: Southeast half a metre developing on Monday, rising to 1.5 metres for a time on Tuesday.
