Ko Te Kohanga Whakawhaiti te Marae
In 1973, the local Maori of Pahiatua produced a plan to build a Marae in their area for there was no Marae to have tangihanga and provide a sanctuary for all of the Maori that migrated to the region for work. It is considered a labour love by the people of the small rural town, however, it would take 36 years before their Marae would stand, this is the story of Te Kohanga Whakawhaiti Marae that will open on the 18th of July 2009.
