Moari Stafford


Moari Stafford was born in Te Awamutu and educated at Kawhia District High School and St Stephens School in Bombay. 

Before starting his career in the media, Moari worked for the New Zealand Forest Service between 1969 and 1986. During this time he was ranger in charge of Tainui Kawhia Forest (1975 - 1982) and in the Te Kao sub-division (1985 -1986)
He left the forestry service in 1987 and headed to Broadcasting School in Christchurch.

He joined TVNZ that same year and in 1988, transferred from Auckland to take up a reporter position based in Hamilton, filing reports from the Waikato, Bay Of Plenty, Taupo and the Taranaki area.

In 1991 he became Editor of Te Karere at TVNZ responsible for the overall administrative running of the programme until he resigned in 2009 to take up a Director/Reporter position with Waka Huia, based in Kawhia.
