TrustPower Community Awards
The Trustpower Community Awards are run in 25 districts all over New Zealand, in conjunction with the local district or city councils. Nominations are judged by a panel of representatives from the local community and presented to the winners at a formal Awards function in their area.
The Awards cover five categories:
- Heritage & Environment
- Health & Wellbeing
- Arts & Culture
- Sport & Leisure
- Education & Child/Youth Development
Anyone can nominate a voluntary group or not-for-profit organisation for the Awards. To find out more about making a nomination - visit the TrustPower Community Awards website or contact the TrustPower Community Relations team on 0800 87 11 11.
Once a year each of the 25 district winners are brought together
for the National Community Awards - they present their project the
rest of the districts who make up 50% of the vote and a panel of
judges who make up the other 50% - from this the Supreme Winner and
Runner Up are chosen.
Background
The TrustPower Community Awards have been running for 15 years. Initially they were set up with the Western Bay of Plenty District Council when TrustPower was listed as a company. Since then they have expanded to include cities and districts all over the country and have grown to become one of New Zealand's largest volunteer-based awards programmes. More than $130,000 is injected into community groups up and down the country every year.
