Weather
It's something we've talked about all week; first of all the raging torrent that swept through mosgiel and then over the past 24 hours heavy rain and flash flooding in the Coromandel, plus storms actross Auckland.  The results are typical; homes wrecked, roads made impassable and a clean-up bill that will run into the millions.  And while this is still big news today, let's be honest, flooding in New Zealand is becoming more and more common - we've come to expect the extremes.  But should we?

Mutton Birds
One of Maoridom's most exclusive food gathering harvests could be under threat.  Halfway into the mutton bird season.  There are reports of young birds being found dead from what appears to be starvation.  The adult mutton birds travel from Alaska every year to breed in the southern islands off Stewart island.  Now the hunters are wondering what could be causing the chicks to die.  Some are blaming global warming.

A Man of Multiple Talents
His talents are multiple.  He acts, directs, sings and can even put 'racing car driver' on his CV.  For those of us old enough to remember, he's best known as Bo Duke in the iconic Dukes of Hazzard TV series.  If you're younger, he's dad of Clark Kent in Smallville.  John Schneider's in Wellington this weekend for the Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo.
