Day 3
Sam's observational prowess is proving a challenge for
the production. Katie Wolfe, the director, tells the cast they must
encourage Sam to talk more in front of the cameras, which he is
currently quite hesitant to do. Sam also thinks some of the people
are "putting on a front".
In accordance to the script, Rima the Schemer corners Sam and tells him she would never vote for him, and gets him to admit the same.
"It's you and me, under the radar, and straight to the top baby," she says.
Honey
Later during lunch, Billy the Gay Guy enters the room in
full drag queen regalia, calling himself "Honey". Sam is not
overly perturbed by this, but Mick the Prick has a stereotypical
homophobic reaction.
Horizontal bungee challenge
Today's reward challenge requires the contestants to
stretch themselves along a horizontal bungee set-up and retrieve a
carrot from a scantily clad woman's chest. The prize is a
Queenstown holiday. The challenge is rigged so Sam can't win. Mary
wins and Ben loses, so he becomes the house slave.
During a post-challenge spa, Tiffany gets into the spa next to Sam and sidles up to our hapless protagonist.
"I didn't notice - honest!" says Sam in interview when confronted with this fact. Sure buddy.
Body shot
Mick creates havoc by taking a Polaroid of his bare butt and
putting it in Billy's photo album.
"You have violated me by putting your arse in my album!" screams Billy in front of everyone.
Billy and Mick have a brutal argument - and almost come to blows.
Sam admits he thought about stepping in to break up a fight. He also admits in interview that he'd like to see Mick go in the upcoming elimination.
God
After Mary reads a God-themed letter from her boyfriend at the
dinner table, Betty launches into her own story of why she gave up
being a nun. As she rants at Sam, everyone else gets up and leaves
the table, leaving Sam to cop the full brunt of Betty's tale of
woe, eventually comforting her while she cries (!).
Rima's diary
Tiffany reads from Rima's diary that she feels she has
successfully duped Sam into a false alliance, and thinks she can
get rid of him when she needs to.
Sam is philosophical: "It's quite entertaining, isn't it," is his only response.
After Tiffany acts all stroppy at lunch, Mary informs Rima that Tiffany stole her diary.
Rima flips out and screams at her. "It must be upsetting now that everybody in the room knows what a conniving little bitch you are," says Tiffany.
Later, Sam finds a sobbing and apologetic Rima on the balcony and consoles her. In interview, Awanui (who plays Rima) admits to being touched by his gesture.
Immunity challenge
To win the ridiculously flamboyant robe of immunity, the
contestants must hold up a bucket full of a "substance" above their
heads for the longest amount of time.
Again, the challenge is rigged so Sam can't win - Mick's bucket is nailed down so it can't fall. After everyone is doused in multi-coloured gross stuff, Mick wins immunity from elimination.
Elimination
At the first elimination ceremony, all the actors vote for who they
are supposed to.
Sam votes for Billy the gay guy, having explained earlier that because Mick has immunity, he thinks Billy should go because his and Mick's conflict creates tension in the house.
As the votes are being read out, one comes up for Sam. The rest are for Rima and Billy, with Billy just getting the most.
Tearfully addressing the group, Billy thanks them and says he didn't have a game plan. Then Mark smashes Billy's commemorative plate into the fireplace.
Mick makes a parting shot, and Mule tells him to shut up.
In a post-show interview out of character, Jeremy (who played Billy the gay guy) says the whole thing was exhausting and he's looking forward to seeing his girlfriend.
