About the show:
On your marks, get set and go! Are you ready for Series 5
of the Emmy award-winning The Amazing Race?
The Amazing Race takes 11 teams of two around the world, competing in a series of tasks, some mental and some physical, to win US$1 million. Restricted plane travel and strict budgets will add to the tension, as teams are forced to rely on wit and ingenuity. The teams that are farthest behind will be eliminated each week.
Phil
Keoghan returns for his fifth season as host and describes this
series as the most cut-throat in terms of how people are playing
the game. "Teams have worked out where the equalisers are -
airports, say, where the teams tend to stack up - so they know when
they really need to push," says Keoghan.
Pit stops in this series range from Egypt to India, including a
stop in New Zealand at Rotorua Hillside Farm. The competing
teams include an internet dating couple, a dwarf, a Texan
model, a Big Brother USA evictee, and many more.
"This particular season really has an edge to it in terms of the teams we have chosen. They're edgy, engaging characters, contrasting teams that rub one another the wrong way from time to time," says Keoghan.
Also look out for the new race rule - "yield", whereby teams can elect any other team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time.
