Wellington actor Jacob Tomuri has packed a lot into his young career. After completing his secondary school education (during which he memorably once failed drama), Jacob trained at The New Zealand College of Performing Arts in Porirua.
After graduation he took a four week job as an extra on The Lord Of The Rings which turned into a year-and-a-half of work as the youngest member of the 20-strong stunt team. LOTR gave him experience in general stunts and in motion capture work, including playing all the orcs who were swept away in the flooding of Isenguard. During this time Jacob juggled other work, including a core cast role as Lieutenant Luke in the second series of The Tribe and a small role in the feature film Snakeskin.
While auditioning for TV series Power Rangers Jacob was asked to try out for a role in the film Peter Pan directed by PJ Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding). He did and was offered the role of a young pirate - the only role cast in NZ.
Jacob is now working full-time on Shortland Street and gained a strong public following - evidenced when he was voted the 2004 Cleo Celebrity Bachelor of the Year.
He is a keen martial artist, an interest that has been reinforced by his stuntwork. Jacob is fourth level in Five Ancestors Shaolin Kung-Fu and has also done karate and kick-boxing. More recently he has been training in Capoeira, a Brazilian form of martial arts.
In what remains of his spare time, Jacob enjoys music, good food and wine, shopping, and spending time with his friends and family.
