Auckland police have launched a homicide investigation into the suspicious death of a man in Parnell.
Police were called to the scene at about 8pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of an argument. The body was found lying on the floor of a small apartment.
The man, in his mid-30s, had just moved into the block of flats
bordering Auckland Domain on Claybrook Road.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Beard says an informant called 111
to report there might be a body in the flat. There was no
sign of forced entry and police do not know if he was living
alone.
Police believe they know the identity of the man who appears to have suffered a violent death. It is believed he was killed in the flat where his body still lies.
Beard says they are following strong lines of inquiry, though no-one has been arrested.
He says although a man was murdered in Parnell, he is not sure people should be overly concerned or think a killer is on the loose.
Neighbours say the flats at the bottom of the cul-de-sac have a variety of residents who usually live there short term.
One, whose bedroom window backs onto the flats, did not hear anything suspicious on Tuesday night.
