The man accused of setting fire to a West Auckland building, killing a woman, has made his first court appearance.

The Korean businessman, who has interim name suppression, faces charges of murder, attempted murder and arson.

He has been remanded in custody until Friday, when it is likely his lawyer will make a bail application. A family member of the accused acted as an interpreter.

Police are expected to officially release the identity of the dead woman later on Monday.
