More controversy over Waitangi

Waitangi Day has always been surrounded in controversy and this year the government looks set to stir up even more by suggesting it takes over responsibility for the Treaty grounds.

The National Trust has managed Waitangi for 75 years but One News understands the government is looking at taking over its role.

"Every Waitangi Day is different...we enjoy every single Waitangi Day," says Janette Richards from the Waitangi National Trust.

Some welcome the suggestion that the government could take over the role of the private trust while others say it will put even more power in the government's hands.

Meanwhile, Te Tii Marae has once again banned many mainstream media from its marae.
