Ahmed Zaoui
How long should it take our spies to declare whether a man amongst
us is a terrorist or not?
At what point does it become a national embarrassment or show our
secret intelligence service to be incompetent? The SIS needs to be
thorough but Ahmed Zaoui, and the New Zealand public, have been
waiting three and a half years. Today Mr Zaoui heard the that his
security risk certificate hearing has been delayed. Love him or
hate him, Mr Zaoui does deserve to be told if he will be granted
asylum here or not. Rawdon Christie speaks with Ahmed Zaoui. Then
we're joined by Zaoui's lawyer, Deborah Manning, and an expert in
security and terrorism, Paul Buchanan from Auckland University.
Truffles
It's said you have to be an optimist to grow truffles and
you certainly have to be patient. There are many New Zealanders
who've been trying to grow truffles for more than 20 years, without
luck. Then there are the success stories, like that of John and
Iris Burn, near Ashburton. They planted their truffle-infected
trees back in 1990, and now finally they are bearing what many call
black gold. So John and Iris invited other growers to come south
and see for themselves. Jendy Harper also got an invite.
