National is calling on Helen Clark to come clean about whether she plans to lead Labour for the next three years - regardless of what happens at the election.

The Prime Minister has told Newstalk ZB she has no plans to retire, but will not be specific about whether she will stay as leader should Labour lose.

Neither will she commit to serving another term as Prime Minister if the party wins.

National's Bill English says the lack of a response is not good enough.

He says if Labour wants to campaign on its experience, it needs to say who will be leading the party in the next three years.

English says there are also doubts as to whether Michael Cullen will stick around for the next three years.

National's Bill English says all he can conclude is that if Labour wins the election, there will be a change of Prime Minister sometime in its fourth term.
