2007 NBC squads revealed

Published: 4:18PM Monday November 13, 2006 Source: ONE Sport

The 2007 National Bank Cup season looks set to be another fiercely competitive year with several franchises boasting strong line-ups.

The eight franchises revealed their extended squads of up to 18 on Monday, with six of the teams having at least one Silver Fern in their line-up.

Perennial strugglers the Flyers and Wellington-based side the Shakers are the only two sides without a member of the New Zealand squad in their team.

Another talking point of the newly-named squads is the number of top Australian players who have been lured across the ditch.

Former Australian international Cynna Kydd (nee Neele) has been named in the Flames line-up, boosting the Canterbury side's shooting end.

The Rebels have also caused a major coup in securing the services of towering defender Demelza Fellowes.

Megan Dehn will once again turn out for the Force next season, while veteran Natalie Avellino returns for another stint with the Sting.

There has been some movement between squads with the Sting once again picking up a couple of handy recruits in the off-season. Nuggety midcourter Liana Barrett-Chase will head South after one season with the Magic with fellow New Zealand A squad member Daneka Wipiiti joining her from the Force.

The Sting have also managed to secure the services of dual international Donna Loffhagen for another season, perhaps ending speculation about another shot at the basketball big time.

After announcing her shock retirement from international netball last month, firey defender Vilimaina Davu will join the Force next season.

Davu will bolster an already formidable-looking Force defensive end, which includes Silver Fern Leana de Bruin and former international Sheryl Scanlan who is returning after the birth of her first child.
