The death toll from a subway tunnel collapse in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou rose to seven after rescuers found two more bodies in the rubble, the official Xinhua news agency said.
Fourteen people are still missing after a half-built subway tunnel caved in on Sunday, leaving a huge crater and engulfing 11 vehicles, Xinhua said.
"Hope to find the missing still alive is diminishing," it said, adding that the cause of the accident was under investigation.
China's construction industry has been plagued by corruption, poor standards and shoddy materials as the country's booming economy fuels a rush to expand infrastructure and housing.
The accident was not the first time China's efforts to upgrade its public transport networks have met with tragedy. Beijing and Shanghai have also seen cave-ins of subway tunnels under construction.
