For the first time this season the NZ Breakers will take their game on the road in the NBL with games against Cairns Taipans and the Gold Coast Blaze.

CJ Bruton is one who is looking forward to the trip after enjoying a five game home stretch to start the season.

"The run of games at home has been great and we are reasonably happy with a 4 and 1 record but this two game road trip will be great for the guys. It is on the road trips when you have to come together as a team, on and off the court.

"Both Cairns and the Gold Coast are going to be tough, we saw how close the Coast are to a first win last week on our court so they will be looking for some revenge at home I'm sure."

The four and one start is the best in the club's history but Head Coach Andrej Lemanis acknowledges that is all it is, a start.

"We are expected to win our home games and that is all that we have done, win four of our first five home games. Spread those out through the season and it is not a startling statistic.

"We have to improve as a unit and show we can play away from home in a hostile environment in front of some intimidating fans. It is important that we maintain the good momentum we have enjoyed as a result of our 5 game stretch at home."

The visit to Cairns was handled reasonably well last year with the Breakers winning in the Cairns Convention Centre twice, including the club's first post season appearance.

The Breakers leave on the back of some good statistics for the team and the individual players.

Having been on the wrong side of the free throw count the previous week the Breakers poured in 33 from 37 from the foul line at an impressive 89%, well above their season average of 75%. The team has only once scored more points from free throws, 36 v Singapore last season.

Oscar forman became the 8th player to score 700 points for the club when he scored the first of his 10 points for the game.

Rick rickert scored 22 points and in the process passed the 300 points mark for the club at 17.5 per game.

Kirk penney had a game high 29 points and continues to lead the league in the points per game stats category (29.4) whilst CJ BRUTON leads the assists per game category (7.2) as well as contributing an impressive 20 points per game.

Upcoming Milestones

While on the road several of the Breakers are set to pass milestones, either against Cairns on Wednesday or the Blaze on Saturday before returning home to face the Perth Wildcats on October 30th.

Tony ronaldson needs 15 points to become only the 6th player all time to score 9500 points in the NBL.

Phill jones is only 7 points shy of becoming the 5th player to score 1000 points for the club.
