Progressives launch dental plan
The Progressive Party says it's aiming to implement subsidised dental visits .
The announcement is one of the party's key policy plans,
announced in Auckland on Thursday.
Leader Jim Anderton says accessing affordable dental care for many
people, particularly those on low or fixed incomes is a major
problem in New Zealand.
He pledged that the Progressive Party would put access to dental care as a crucial part of its support for a Labour-led government.
"We would like to see a policy phased in over the next five years - similar to the roll-out of cheaper doctors' visits. Those population groups in greatest need would get assistance first."
Anderton says he will be working closely with industry professionals to design a feasible dental plan
He said neglected teeth and gums were a sleeping problem for New Zealand's healthcare system, and it needed to be addressed.
