The troubled Christchurch construction company developing the South Island's tallest building may not necessarily face liquidation.

AMC Construction was building the C1 Tower on Gloucester Street and is believed to owe millions to sub-contractors.

Christchurch accountant Andrew Oorshot has been appointed as administrator to help look at options for AMC.

He will assess the company's financial situation over the next five weeks. He says creditors will then vote on the options found, which could include liquidation.

The project has been taken over by the new company, South Island Construction.
