Animal rights activists claim pig farmers are enjoying luxury five-star accommodation while their animals suffer inside small crates or concrete pens.
The group SAFE (Save Animals From Experiments) has picketed a Christchurch hotel where the annual New Zealand Pork conference was being held.
SAFE Spokesman Hans Kriek said activists dressed as three little pigs were tucked up in a cosy, luxurious bed outside the Crowne Plaza hotel.
They wanted to get the message across to farmers that pigs also deserve comfort, proper bedding material and a space to roam.
Kriek said factory farmed sows are driven insane due to severe confinement and deprivation.
