People are still saving power despite the increasingly cold weather.
National savings for the week ending Friday came to 3.3% with the lower South Island saving the most at 4.4%. The upper North Island region saved 2.6%, central North Island 3%, lower North Island 4% and upper South Island 2.7.%.
"The combination of power saving and better inflows is starting to make a difference to the lakes' storage levels," says Patrick Strange, convenor of the Winter Power Group and Chief Executive of Transpower.
Strange says cold temperatures across much of New Zealand last week pushed up demand for electricity.
"We certainly want people to keep warm and safe, so we're first asking them to turn off anything they don't need."
Strange says power saving tips were sent home with children to coincide with the start of school holidays.
