The man accused of murdering his wife then dumping his daughter in Melbourne while he fled to the US claims another man is responsible for the death of his wife.
Nai Yin Xue was captured in Georgia after five months on the run.
His lawyer says Xue believes his wife was killed in Auckland last September by a man she had met a few weeks earlier.
The 54-year-old appeared in the Auckland District Court in April for a pre-depositions hearing. He was flanked by a translator and further remanded in custody until September for a two day depositions hearing.
Xue is charged with murdering his wife An An Liu in September last year. Her body was found in the boot of a car outside their Auckland home.
Xue abandoned his three-year-old daughter at a Melbourne railway station before heading to the US where he remained on the run for six months before being captured in Atlanta by members of the public who held him until police arrived.
His daughter is now living with her grandmother in China.
