The Black Sticks went down 2-1 to Argentina on Wednesday
night at the Azlan Shah Tournament in Malaysia.
Argentina completely dominated the opening 20 minutes scoring
in the eighth minute from the field and in the 15th from a heavily
disputed penalty stroke.
NZ pulled it back to 2-1 seven minutes from half time when Ben
Collier shot home from the field.
Just before halftime New Zealand was awarded their first penalty
corner of the match, but unfortunately Hayden Shaw's flick hit the
cross bar.
In the second half, the Black Sticks completed dominated territory
and possession, and were awarded five penalty corners, compared to
Argentina's one.
However the New Zealanders failed to find the equaliser.
Manager Kevin Marr said that while the result was disappointing,
New Zealand's overall performance against one of the form teams of
the tournament, was pleasing.
The side's next match is Thursday night.
