Man arrested in elderly sex attack

A 40-year-old New Plymouth man has been arrested over an attack on an elderly woman in her home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward says the man has been charged with burglary, attempted rape, unlawful sexual connection, assault with intent to rob and two charges of attempted sexual violation.

The offender smashed his way through the back door to get at the 88-year-old on Thursday.

Coward says the victim was subjected to ten minutes of violence and indecent actions.

He will appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Saturday morning.
