Capital and Coast DHB is being urged to follow Auckland and Waikato's lead and introduce free access to the morning after contraceptive pill.
It's hoped to reduce the number of unplanned teenage pregnancies.
Capital and Coast board member Helene Ritchie wants to see the scheme implemented in Wellington, and has asked officers to examine its viability.
She says the free pill would hopefully reduce the number of abortions, which are costly both emotionally and financially.
