It's shaping up to be a slow Mothers Day for florists as many people start to tighten their belts.
Sharon Mak from Susan White Florist in Wellington says orders are down on this time last year, because flowers are a luxury item many can no longer afford.
She says the down turn in the economy means people are having to
prioritise, and she's even heard of one florist who has received
not a single order for Sunday.
Mak says mothers are important, but people are tending to spend
less on them this year.
