There are not many musicians who would say the smaller their audience, the better.

But Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is going all out to attract the tinier folk with its APO 4 Kids series.

Formerly known as the Baby Proms, the concerts is aimed at children aged between two to five years old.

They include old classics like Flight of The Bumblebee and kids' favourites like Wheels on The Bus.

Compere Celia Stewart has been working in children's music education for a number of years and she says keeping the children's attention is not as hard as many might think.

She says early exposure to quality music is crucial in order for the youngsters have a greater understanding, love and knowledge of it.

Stewart says hand movements, lighting and big signs are also crucial parts of the performances.

The next APO 4 Kids concert is at Takapuna's Bruce Mason Centre on Saturday night, before the finale at the Auckland Town Hall next Saturday.
