An attempt to bring coffee and cake to a west coast Auckland surf beach has fallen foul of the local authorities.

Three days after she opened the Big Wave mobile cafe at Piha, Fiona Anderson's been ordered to shut up shop by Waitakere City Council.

The venture surprised locals as Anderson is part of a residents group fighting to prevent a permanent beach cafe being opened.

Anderson is hoping to get a mobile licence to re-open and says she's had interest in the concept from other surfing beaches.
